A Night at the Movies

We had a great "Night at the Movies"

Thank you to those who attended and also presented. We had four wonderful presentations!

First we had "Breakfast at Tiffany's" Jacquie did a wonderful job teaching us the importance of eating a healthy breakfast. A few ideas for breakfast that require no cooking are: bagel with cream cheese, banana bread with peanut butter, yogurt, string cheese, apple slices with peanut butter. Ideas that require cooking: breakfast burrito, hard boiled egg, cheese toast, crepes, hot cereal, breakfast pizza. She also reminded us of how important exercise is and how much better we would feel if we did it regularly. It can lower cholesterol, blood pressure and much more! With eight children of her own, she would get up early to get her exercise in and make sure she was there to get them breakfast before they were off to school. Some examples were: You can exercise with your kids by going for a walk, exercise to a DVD with them, you will be a great example to them for years to come.
(just like Jacquie's mom was to her) Thanks Jacquie!
She brought these delicious bran muffins

Yummy Breakfast Blender Drinks

The Movie Theater treats we enjoyed.

Fresh popcorn from the Movie Theater.
We enjoyed "The Parent Trap" presentation that Trish gave.
She focused on two talks: Julie Beck October 2007 conference talk and James E. Faust Oct 2000 conference talk. She did a great job talking on each of the subjects from Sister Beck's talk and how we can apply them to our lives. We are all trying to do our best and with the help of our Heavenly Father, we can make it because as her grandma use to say"Tomorrow is a new day, a clean slate". She mentioned how she uses the time in the car to talk with her kids about what they are doing and learning more about them, this is a great way to strengthen your communication with your children.

James E. Faust Oct 2000 conference talk. We need to avoid danger, have respect for others, use appropriate discipline, obedience and learn to work. In today's world, these are great guidelines for us as parents to follow. Thanks Trish!
Part two of the "The Parent Trap" Maree presented was on Grand parenting. She brought some fun displays of things she does. She said she loves being a grandma, and it showed tonight by the things she shared! Some of her ideas were: she just mailed her grand kids Halloween cards with fun stickers, having things done in advance so when the grand kids come, you can spend time playing with them, e-mail and snail mail are fun memories. She showed a book of her and her husbands courtship that is illustrated for the kids to enjoy. She talked on what great examples grandparents can be to their grand kids. She now realizes that many of her interests came from the example of her grandparents.
"The Sound of Music" presentation by Angie was a great way to finish the night off. She talked about how music can be uplifting or influence you negatively. You can watch the music on your children's i-pods and see what kind of music they have on them. It will say explicit next to it if there is profanity in it. It will say Clean if it is a better version of the song. When you are feeling frustrated with how your day is going, calm music can almost instantly change your mood. The right kind of music can be fun to exercise to, clean your house, dance and be silly with your kids, and invite the spirit into your home. Maybe you have you noticed, that we start and end our meetings with music. Music will help set the "tone" in your home. She challenged us to write down a few of our favorite music choices and she will compile a list so we can broaden our music options.
These are just a few of the many great things that we learned on this fun evening! Thank you again to all of the sisters who took the time to pray, prepare and inspire us with their presentations! The Sizzlin' Seventh Sisters are Strengthened every time we meet!
